Job Description
A niche opportunity has arisen for you to put your translation, creativity and originality skills to the test supporting the Corporate Communications Department North Wales Fire and Rescue.

In the Welsh Translator job, you will be:
  • Providing a written Welsh simultaneous translation service using various computer applications according to Service requirements and including at FRA meetings
  • Handling translation demand and resources whilst quality assuring the standard of translation documents
  • Proofreading documents that have been translated 
  • Developing and maintaining support materials to help promote the use of the Welsh language within the Service
  • Managing the work of external translators where work is outsourced, quality assuring completed documents and ensuring payment is authorised for the service provided
  • Providing advice and guidance on Welsh language translation to members of staff and to the Service’s Welsh Language Champions
  • Supporting the commitment to providing language choice in the workplace, including at meetings
  • Ensuring that translation equipment is maintained to comply with health and safety requirements prior to use at meetings and interviews conducted bilingually
  • Keep abreast of best practices within Welsh language translation
  • Any other duties commensurate with qualifications and experience
To be considered for the Welsh Translator role, you will have:
  • Educated to degree level, with good degree in Welsh
  • A recognised qualification or experience in simultaneous translation
  • Demonstrable experience in translation skills including translating from Welsh to English and English to Welsh
  • Written and oral fluency in the Welsh and English languages
  • Good working knowledge and experience of IT, websites and intranet sites including: Microsoft, Adobe software and translation memory software
  • Excellent reading and writing skills; writing content and policy guidance, proofreading, acute attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Strong typing skills to a minimum standard of 35 words per minute
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with the ability to build networking contacts
  • Ability to work without supervision or as part of a team 
This is a permanent vacancy, working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The role will be based at HQ in St Asaph but agile working is available for the position.

In return, you’ll receive a salary of £26,975 rising to £28,226 per annum PLUS employee benefits and training opportunities.
