Job Description

We are looking to grow our Programme Office team at The North Wales Economic Ambition Board (NWEAB) and are now looking for an Energy Project Manager to join us and help deliver the Growth Deal for North Wales.  This role will give you the opportunity to work with multiple partners across North Wales; have flexible working arrangements, generous annual leave entitlement, a local government pension scheme plus training and professional development opportunities within a supportive environment. 

The Growth Deal includes a suite of innovative and transformational programmes that will contribute to driving forward the economy in the region.  The Board has already set a strong foundation to deliver the Growth Vision, exploiting the opportunities as well as addressing some of the challenges facing the regional economy.   Now is an exciting time to join the growing team at the forefront of delivering positive change to North Wales.

The Low Carbon Energy Programme will assist in positioning North Wales as one of the leading UK locations for decarbonisation, renewable energy generation and green growth.

Both the UK and Welsh Governments, and the Board, also recognise that the Growth Deal will be a key component of North Wales’ economic recovery post COVID-19. 

As the Energy Project Manager your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and delivering projects (some multiple complex) including design, budgets, negotiation and planning, through approval and implementation;
  • Multiple project design and business case completion including negotiation and agreement within assigned programme(s);
  • Matrix management of staff and resources across teams including allocation and management of work;
  • Providing professional support including quality assurance to all programmes within the wider Growth Deal portfolio;
  • Project managing the development and delivery of priority assignments identified by the NWEAB (e.g. the Growth Deal Smart Local Energy Project) and progress applications for energy related funding opportunities;
  • Establish relationships with cross-border hubs and programmes to support strategic aims and exploit joint investment opportunities.
  • Work with key regional stakeholders, partners and governments to ensure successful delivery of Energy Projects and Programmes

We are interested in speaking to people about the Energy Project Manager role with the following skills and experience:

  • Degree / postgraduate in a relevant energy field (or equivalent)
  • A Project / Programme Management Qualification (e.g PRINCE 2 Practitioner or equivalent) is desirable;
  • Good knowledge of project management methods and techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling assignments;
  • Demonstrable experience of successful project/programme delivery to deadline and to budget;
  • An understanding of financial management practice;
  • Knowledge of the low carbon energy sector;
  • IT literate, with working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and relevant databases and social media;
  • Ability to present, use and interpret information confidently.Whilst the ability to speak Welsh is desirable, it is not essential for this role.

The North Wales Economic Ambition Board is a partnership of the 6 Local Authorities: Gwynedd, Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire, Wrexham and Flintshire, along with Bangor University, Glyndwr University, Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, Coleg Cambria and the North Wales Mersey Dee Business Council.  The Board’s purpose is to deliver the Economic Growth Deal to North Wales and fulfil a fifteen-year growth vision to grow the economy and improve productivity.

In return, the Energy Project Manager will receive a salary of £37,849 - £39,782 pa.  This is a full-time role however we will consider flexible working requests for the right person.  Initially this is a fixed term post until June 2023, with the possibility of an extension.
